Sounds like your tire has been exposed to sunlight and maybe salt. Do you live on the coast? After 3000 miles, your original equipment tire doesn't have that many miles left in it. I would suggest you keep an eye on the tire pressure and if it doesn't develop any slow leaks, just run it until it's worn out. You might be able to get a good deal on a new tire this winter and just keep it in your garage until the spring and have it mounted then. I've found that the $75 tires out of the J.C. Whitney catalog last just as long and perform just as well as the $200 Dunlop tires at my local dealer. They have cheaper ones as well.
